WHAT COOKIES ARE
Cookies are small data files stored by the browser on your computer's hard disk text containing a certain amount of information exchanged between a website and your terminal device, and are normally used by the website operator to store the information necessary to improve navigation within the site or to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user when browsing the web. When visiting the same site or any other site again, the user's device checks for the presence of a recognised cookie so that it can read the information it contains. Different cookies contain different information and are used for different purposes (efficient navigation within the pages of the same site, profiling in order to send targeted promotional messages, analysis of the number of visits to the site). More generally, some cookies (called session cookies) are assigned to the user's device only for the duration of access to the site and expire automatically when the browser is closed. Other cookies (called persistent cookies) remain on the device for an extended period of time. The specific purposes of the different types of cookies installed on this site are described in more detail below. You can deactivate cookies by following the information below.
WHICH COOKIES WE USE
The cookies we use enable us to recognise returning users and their details so that they do not have to enter the same information again and again. They also allow us to analyse the traffic patterns of users visiting our website so that we can improve its usability. Here are some of the types of cookies used on our website:
Technical cookies
We may use technical cookies to enable you to take advantage of the services you have requested through our website. Without these cookies, it would not be possible to provide the services requested. For example, technical cookies may be used to:
- Allowing users to access secure areas of our website without having to continually log in
- Remember any actions performed by the user (e.g. completion of a form) when returning to the previous page of a session
How to disable this type of cookie? The main and most popular browsers accept all cookies by default. You can change this option, through the features on your browser, by disabling - as described below - the function altogether or at least requesting that for each incoming cookie you are asked for explicit consent when receiving it.
Analytical cookies
Analytical cookies may be used to obtain information about the use of the website, advertisements and e-mails and to alert us to possible errors. In addition, these cookies allow us to obtain detailed technical information such as the last page visited, the number of pages visited, whether an email has been opened, which parts of the website or emails are clicked on by users and the time elapsed between clicks. This information may be associated with user details such as IP address, domain or browser; however, it is analysed together with other people's information so as not to identify one particular user to another. For example, these cookies may be used on our website to:
- Analysing and improving the performance and design of our website, advertisements and e-mails
- Quantifying the response to our advertisements and improving their effectiveness
- Calculate errors occurring on our website to improve the service and handle any complaints
For information and to deactivate third-party analytical cookies go to the site: www.youronlinechoices.com/it
Third-party tracking cookies
Third party tracking cookies may be sent to your device from our partners' websites. These cookies are used to determine when partners redirect a user to our website and whether that user purchases a product or service. The information may be shared with our partners on an anonymous basis so as not to identify a particular user to another. In addition, this information is provided in accordance with our contractual obligations to our partners to help them improve the effectiveness of their sites.
Functionality cookies
These cookies are not essential, but they allow you to take advantage of several useful features on our website. For example, they may be used on our website to:
- Remember preferences selected by the user during previous visits, such as country/language, interests and website presentation (layout, font size, colours, etc.). In this way, the user will not have to enter this information again
- Remembering answers to questions posed by our site, e.g. on participation in customer satisfaction surveys, so that they are not repeated to the user
- Determining whether a service has already been proposed to the user, e.g. the offer of real-time online assistance
- Providing information enabling the operation of optional services, e.g. watching an online video or posting a comment on a blog
Targeting or promotional cookies
These cookies can be used on our website to serve advertisements that are tailored to your interests. Targeting or promotional cookies allow us to obtain detailed information about how users navigate our website (for example, the products or services most viewed by a particular individual). They also allow us to recognise a user who returns to our website and/or a site that forms part of the network of one of our promotional partners.
Third-party cookies
When a user uses our website, it is possible that some uncontrolled cookies may be stored. This happens, for example, if the user visits a page that contains content from a third-party website. As a result, the user will receive cookies from these third-party services. Cookies do not contain any personal information unless the user is logged in to the account.
For more information on the use of cookies by third parties, please refer to the privacy and cookie policy of the services in question.
